MADMAN Magazine

A high-fashion magazine that relies on couture clothing to promote the 2019 cult-classic Joker.

Final publication, 10” x 13”, includes cover and a 3-page spread, crafted and bound as a physical magazine.
Must feature a typographic cover design that turns a single letter into a branding and artistic element.

Elements

Create a couture fashion magazine that promotes a movie of your choosing and sells high-fashion clothing in tandem. The magazine should should gain the attention and curiosity from movie goers and the art community while also selling the clothes in a clever and artistic way.

Project Requirements

The goal of this fashion magazine is to increase public attention and curiosity from movie goers and the art community alike. Focusing on the move Joker, I incorporated an androgynous clothing style while utilizing lighting and dramatic angles to demonstrate isolation in an eerie and off-putting manner. As the reader reads further into the magazine, we’re shown the Joker descending further into madness. Each spread demonstrates how the Joker’s mental health and personal image deteriorates to the point of no return. His transformation into the Joker is his way of accepting the dark parts of himself and humanity alike. I hope the uncomfortable photographic and typographic elements make people question the Joker’s reason for an identity shift. The Joker was not born evil, but he proves how a jarring and uncomfortable world is bound to produce even more terrifying deranged and terrifying individuals.
