Elements

Students will develop a logical, legible system of letterforms in the form of a working typeface by applying appropriate typographic knowledge to establish a set of rules with which letterforms will adhere consistently. They will recognize relevant typographic anatomy and terminology and show that understanding by defending their design choices, and assess peer designs. Students will write a brief outlining the typeface application, and design the system to match appropriately.

Project Requirements

Argyle is the first typeface I’ve ever created and the first time I used Glyphs. My goal was to replicate the charm we associate with argyle fabric rather than directly copying elements of the pattern into the design itself. I translated this charm into a typeface that implements humanistic, geometric, and display features to create a sophisticated yet endearing font.
